| 4 som der står skrevet i bogen med profeten Esajas' taler: »Der er en røst af en, som råber i ørkenen: »Ban Herrens vej, gør hans stier jævne; | 4 Som skrefvet er i Esaiæ Prophetis Talis Bog / som siger / (Det er) den hans røst som raaber i Ørcken / Berede I HErrens Vey / giører hans Stje rette. | 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. |
| 5 hver dal skal fyldes og hvert bjerg og høj sænkes, og det krogede skal rettes ud og de knudrede veje jævnes; | 5 Hver Dal skal opfyldis / oc hvert Bierg oc Høy skal fornedreis / Oc de ting / som ere krogede / skulle rettis / oc de u-jefne Veye skulle blifve slette. | 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; |

| 7 Han sagde da til de folkeskarer, som kom ud for at døbes af ham: »I øgleunger, hvem gav jer den tanke at fly fra den kommende vrede? | 7 Derfor sagde hand til Folcket / som gick ud / ad døbis af hannem / I Øgle-Unger / Hvo vjste eder / ad fly fra den tilkommende Vrede? | 7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? |
| 8 Så bær da frugter, som er omvendelsen værdige, og begynd ikke at sige ved jer selv: »Vi har Abraham til fader; thi jeg siger jer, at Gud kan opvække Abraham børn af stenene der! | 8 Saa giører Fruct / som Omvendelsen udkræfver / oc begynder icke ad sige ved eder self / Vi hafve Abraham til fader. Thi jeg siger eder / Gu | 8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. |

| 11 Han svarede og sagde til dem: »Den, som har to kjortler, skal dele med den, som ingen har; og den, som har mad, skal gøre ligeså!« | 11 Oc Folcket spurde hannem / ad oc sagde / Hvad skulle vi da giøre? | 11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. |
| 12 Der kom også toldere for at døbes, og de spurgte ham: »Mester! hvad skal vi gøre?« | 12 Men hand svarde / oc siger til dem / Hvo som hafver to kiortle / hand deele med den / som icke hafver: Oc hvo som hafver Mad / giøre sig lige saa. | 12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? |
| 13 Han svarede dem: »Opkræv ikke mere, end der er foreskrevet jer.« | 13 Men der komme oc Toldere ad døbis / oc sagde til hannem / Mestere / Hvad skulle vi giøre? | 13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. |
| 14 Også soldater spurgte ham og sagde: »Hvad skal så vi gøre?« Og han sagde til dem: »I må ikke mishandle eller udplyndre nogen, men lad jer nøje med jeres lønning!« | 14 Men hand sagde til dem / Kræfver icke meere / end eder er sæt. | 14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. |
| 15 Da folket var i forventning, og alle tænkte i deres hjerter, om ikke Johannes skulle være Kristus, | 15 Men Stridsmændene spurde oc hannem ad / oc sagde / Oc vi / hvad skulle vi giøre? Oc hand sagde til dem / Udsuer ingen med ofvervold oc giører ey uræt med Spidzfindighed / Oc lader eder nøye med eders Sold. | 15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not; |
| 16 så tog Johannes til orde og sagde til alle: »Jeg døber jer med vand; men han kommer, som er stærkere end jeg; jeg er end ikke værdig til at løse remmen på hans sko; han skal døbe jer med Helligånd og ild. | 16 Men som Folcket formoded eder / oc tænckte alle i deres Hierter om Johanne / Om hand / maa skee / skulde være den Christus. | 16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: |
| 17 Sin kasteskovl har han i hånden for at gennemrense sin lo og samle hveden i sin lade, men avnerne skal han opbrænde, med uudslukkelig ild.« | 17 Da svarde Johannes / oc sagde til alle / Jeg døber ved eder med Vand: men der kommer den som er sterckere end jeg / hvilcken jeg er icke værdig til / ad opløse hans Skotvenge: Hand skal døbe eder med den Hellig-Aand oc Ild. | 17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. |
| 18 Også meget andet lagde han folket på sinde, når han forkyndte evangeliet for dem. | 18 Hves Kasteskul er i hans Haand / oc hand skal reense sit Logulf: oc skal sancke Hveden i sit Kornhuus / men Afnerne skal hand forbredne med uslyckelig Ild. | 18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people. |
| 19 Men da Herodes, landsfyrsten, blev sat i rette af ham for sin broders hustru Herodias' skyld og for alt det onde, som Herodes gjorde, | 19 Oc megen andet meere formanede oc forkyndede hand Folcket til glæde. | 19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, |
