| 1 Tyrus' konge Huram sendte folk til David med cedertræ, murere og tømrere, for at de kunne bygge et hus til ham. | 1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house. |
| 2 Da forstod David, at Herren havde sikret ham som konge over Israel, og at hans kongemagt var højt ophøjet for hans folk Israels skyld. | 2 And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel. |
| 3 David tog flere hustruer i Jerusalem, og han fik flere sønner og døtre. | 3 And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters. |
| 4 Dette er navnene på de sønner, han fik i Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Natan,Salomo, | 4 Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, |
| 5 Jibkar, Elishua, Elpelet, | 5 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet, |
| 6 Noga, Nefeg, Jafia, | 6 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia, |
| 7 Elishama, Be'eljada og Elifelet. | 7 And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet. |
| 8 Da filistrene hørte, at David var blevet salvet til konge over hele Israel, drog de alle op for at få fat på ham. Så snart David fik det at vide, gik han dem i møde. | 8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them. |
| 9 Samtidig var filistrene kommet og havde gjort indfald i Refaim-dalen. | 9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. |
| 10 David spurgte Gud: "Skal jeg drage op mod filistrene? Vil du give dem i min hånd?" Herren svarede: "Drag op! Jeg vil give dem i din hånd." | 10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand. |
| 11 Så drog de op til Ba'al?Perasim, og dér slog David dem. Og han sagde: "Ved min hånd er Gud brudt igennem mine fjender, som vand bryder igennem." Derfor kalder man dette sted Ba'al?Perasim. | 11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim. |
| 12 Dér efterlod filistrene deres guder, og David gav besked om, at de skulle brændes. | 12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire. |
| 13 Men filistrene kom igen og gjorde indfald i-dalen. | 13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. |
| 14 David spurgte igen Gud, og han svarede: "Drag ikke op efter dem, men gå bag om dem, og angrib dem ud for baka?buskene. | 14 Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. |
| 15 Så snart du hører lyden af trin i baka?buskenes top, skal du rykke ud til kamp, for Gud er draget ud foran dig for at slå filistrenes hær." | 15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. |
| 16 David gjorde, som Gud havde befalet ham; og de slog filistrenes hær og forfulgte den fra Gibeon helt til Gezer. | 16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer. |
| 17 Davids ry nåede ud i alle lande, og Herren lagde rædsel for ham over alle folkene. | 17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations. |
