| 1 Nogen tid efter slog David filistrene og undertvang dem, og han tog Gat med tilhørende småbyer fra dem. | 1 Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. |
| 2 Han slog også moabitterne, og de blev Davids skatskyldige undersåtter. | 2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts. |
| 3 Endvidere slog David Sobas konge Hadad'ezer ved Hamat, da han var draget ud for at oprette sit herredømme ved Eufratfloden. | 3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates. |
| 4 David erobrede tusind vogne, syv tusind ryttere og tyve tusind fodfolk fra ham, og han skar haserne over på alle vognhestene, undtagen på hundrede, som han skånede. | 4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots. |
| 5 Da aramæerne fra Damaskus kom for at hjælpe Sobas konge Hadad'ezer, slog David toogtyve tusind mand af aramæerne. | 5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. |
| 6 Så indsatte han guvernører i Aram?Damaskus, og aramæerne blev Davids skatskyldige undersåtter. Således gav Herren David sejr over alt, hvor han kom frem. | 6 Then David put garrisons in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went. |
| 7 David tog de guldskjolde, som Hadad'ezers mænd havde båret, og bragte dem til Jerusalem. | 7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. |
| 8 Og fra Hadad'ezers byer Tibkat og Kun tog David bronze i store mængder. Af det lavede Salomo bronzehavet og søjlerne og bronzeredskaberne. | 8 Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brazen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass. |
| 9 Da Hamats konge To'u hørte, at David havde slået hele Sobas konge Hadad'ezers hær, | 9 Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah; |
| 10 sendte han sin søn Hadoram til kong David for at hilse ham og takke ham, fordi han havde kæmpet mod Hadad'ezer og slået ham Hadad'ezer havde nemlig været i krig med To'u ? og Hadoram havde alle slags gaver af guld, sølv og bronze med. | 10 He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to inquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass. |
| 11 Alt det helligede kong David til Herren, sammen med det sølv og guld, han havde taget fra alle folkene, edomitterne, moabitterne, ammonitterne, filistrene og amalekitterne. | 11 Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. |
| 12 Abishaj, Serujas søn, slog edomitterne i Sal-dalen, atten tusind mand. | 12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand. |
| 13 Derpå indsatte han guvernører i Edom, og alle edomitterne blev Davids undersåtter. Således gav Herren David sejr overalt, hvor han kom frem. | 13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went. |
| 14 David regerede over hele Israel og øvede ret og retfærdighed mod hele sit folk. Joab, | 14 So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people. |
| 15 Serujas søn, var hærchef; Joshafat, Akiluds søn, var sekretær. | 15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder. |
| 16 Sadok, Akitubs søn, og Abimelek, Ebjatars søn, var præster, og Shavsha var statsskriver. | 16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe; |
| 17 Benaja, Jojadas søn, stod i spidsen for kreterne og pleterne, og Davids sønner var kongens førstemænd. | 17 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king. |
