| 1 Senere fik Josef besked om, at hans far var syg, og han kom sammen med sine to sønner, Manasse og Efraim. | 1 And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. |
| 2 Jakob fik at vide, at hans søn Josef var kommet til ham, og Israel samlede sine kræfter og satte sig op i sengen. | 2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. |
| 3 Jakob sagde tilJosef: "Gud den Almægtige viste sig for mig i Luz i Kana'an. | 3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, |
| 4 Han velsignede mig og sagde til mig: Jeg vil gøre dig frugtbar og talrig og gøre dig til en mængde folkeslag. Og jeg vil give dine efterkommere dette land til evig ejendom. | 4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. |
| 5 De to sønner, du fik her i Egypten, før jeg kom ned til dig, skal nu være mine; Efraim og Manasse skal være mine, ligesom Ruben og Simeon. | 5 And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. |
| 6 De børn, du får efter dem, skal være dine; men de skal have navn efter deres to brødre i det land, de får i eje. | 6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance. |
| 7 ? Dengang jeg kom fra Paddan, døde Rakel fra mig i Kana'an, et stykke vej fra Efrat, og der begravede jeg hende, ved vejen til Efrat." Efrat er det samme som Betlehem. | 7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem. |
| 8 Da Israel så Josefs sønner, sagde han: "Hvem er det?" | 8 And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these? |
| 9 Josef svarede: "Det er de sønner, som Gud har givet mig her. Da sagde Israel: "Kom hen til mig med dem, så jeg kan velsigne dem." | 9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. |
| 10 Israels øjne var svækkede af alderdom, så han ikke kunne se. Josef førte dem hen til ham, og Israel kyssede dem og omfavnede dem. | 10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. |
| 11 Så sagde han til Josef: "Jeg havde ikketroet, jeg skulle få dig at se igen, og nu har Gud endda ladet mig se dit afkom. | 11 And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath showed me also thy seed. |
| 12 Derpå tog Josef dem ned fra hans knæ og kastede sig til jorden. | 12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. |
| 13 Josef tog nu sine to sønner i hånden, Efraim i sin højre hånd, så han stod til venstre for Israel, og Manasse i sin venstre, så han stod til højre for Israel, og så førte han dem hen til ham. | 13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him. |
| 14 Israel rakte sin højre hånd frem og lagde den på Efraims hoved, skønt han var den yngste, og sin venstre hånd lagde han på Manasses hoved; han krydsede sine hænder. Men Manasse var jo den førstefødte. | 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn. |
| 15 Så velsignede han Josef: " Den Gud, for hvis ansigt mine fædre Abraham og lsak vandrede, den Gud, som har været min hyrde fra min fødsel til i dag, | 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, |
| 16 den engel, som har udfriet mig fra alt ondt skal velsigne drengene. De skal kaldes med mit navn og med mine fædre Abrahams og Isaks navne, og de skal blive talrige i landet." | 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. |
| 17 Da Josef så, at hans far havde lagt sin højre hånd på Efraims hoved, blev han bekymret og greb sin fars hånd for at flytte den fra Efraims hoved over på Manasses. | 17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. |
| 18 Josef sagde til sin far: "Det er forkert, far! Det er ham her, der er den førstefødte, læg din højre hånd på hans hoved." | 18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head. |
| 19 Men det ville hans far ikke. Han sagde; "Jeg ved det, min søn, jeg ved det. Også han skal blive til et folk; også han skal blive stor. Men hans yngre bror skal blive større end han, og hans efterkommere skal blive til en mængde folkeslag." | 19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. |
| 20 Den dag velsignede han dem og sagde: "Med dit navn skal Israel velsigne og sige: Gud gøre dig som Efraim og Manasse." Sådan satte han Efraim foran Manasse! | 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh. |
| 21 Israel sagde til Josef: "Jeg skal snart dø, men Gud vil være med jer og bringe jer tilbage til jeres fædres land. | 21 And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. |
| 22 Jeg giver dig frem for dine brødre den-bjergryg, jeg tog fra amoritterne med mit sværd og min bue." | 22 Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow. |
