| 1 Du skal elske Herren din Gud og holde hans bud, hans love, hans retsregler og hans befalinger alle dage. | 1 Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway. |
| 2 Det skal I vide i dag det angår jo ikke jeres børn, de har ikke erfaret og ikke oplevet Herren jeres Guds opdragelse af jer, hans storhed, hans stærke hånd og løftede arm, | 2 And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm, |
| 3 de tegn og gerninger, han gjorde i Egypten mod egypterkongen Farao og mod hele hans land, | 3 And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land; |
| 4 og hvad han gjorde mod egypternes hær og deres heste og vogne, da han lod Sivhavets vand skylle hen over dem, dengang de forfulgte jer, ja, hvordan Herren udryddede dem for al fremtid; | 4 And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day; |
| 5 ej heller hvad han gjorde mod jer i ørkenen, indtil I kom til dette sted, | 5 And what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came into this place; |
| 6 og hvad han gjorde mod Datan og Abiram, rubenitten Eliabs sønner, da jorden spærrede sit gab op og slugte demsammen med deres familier og telte og alle de levende væsener, der fulgte dem, lige midt i Israel. | 6 And what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and all the substance that was in their possession, in the midst of all Israel: |
| 7 I har set alt det store, som Herren har gjort. | 7 But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did. |
| 8 Hold alt det, jeg i dag befaler dig, for at I må få styrke til at gå ind og erobre det land, som I skal over og tage i besiddelse, | 8 Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it; |
| 9 og for at I må få et langt liv på den jord, som Herren lovede jeres fædre at give dem og deres efterkommere, et land der flyder med mælk og honning. | 9 And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey. |
| 10 For det land, du skal ind og tage i besiddelse, er ikke som det Egypten, I drog ud af, hvor man sår sit korn og må vande ved fodkraft, ligesom i en køkkenhave. | 10 For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs: |
| 11 Nej, det land, I skal over og tage i besiddelse, er et land med-bjerge og-dale; det får vand at drikke, når det regner fra himlen. | 11 But the land, whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven: |
| 12 Det er et land, Herren din Gud våger over. Bestandig hviler Herren din Guds øjne på det, fra begyndelsen til slutningen af året. | 12 A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year. |
| 13 Hvis I vil lytte til de befalinger, jeg giver jer i dag, og elske Herren jeres Gud og tjene ham af hele jeres hjerte og af hele jeres sjæl, | 13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, |
| 14 så vil jeg til rette tid giver jeres land den regn, det behøver, både efterårsregn og forårsregn, så du kanhøste dit korn, din vin og din olie. | 14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. |
| 15 Jeg vil sørge for græs på dine marker til kvæget, og du skal spise dig mæt. | 15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full. |
| 16 Men tag jer i agt, at I ikke lader jer lokke, så I kommer på afveje og dyrker andre guder og tilbeder dem. | 16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; |
| 17 For da vil Herrens vrede flamme op mod jer; han vil lukke himlen, så der ikke kommer regn, og jorden ikke giver sin afgrøde, og så bliver I meget snart udryddet fra det herlige land, som Herren vil give jer. | 17 And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you. |
| 18 Læg jer de ord, jeg her siger, på sinde; I skal binde dem om jeres hånd som et tegn, og de skal sidde på jeres pande som et mærke. | 18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. |
| 19 Lær jeres sønner dem, fremsig dem, både når du er hjemme, og når du er ude, nAr du går i seng, og når du står op. | 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. |
| 20 Du skal skrive dem på dørstolperne i dit hjem og i dine porte, | 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: |
| 21 for at både I og jeres børn må leve længe på den jord, som Herren lovede jeres fædre at give dem, ja, så længe himlen hvælver sig over jorden. | 21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. |
| 22 Hvis I holder alt det, jeg befaler jer at gøre, og elsker Herren jeres Gud, vandrer ad alle hans veje og holder fast ved ham, | 22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; |
| 23 så vil Herren drive alle disse folk bort foran jer, og I skal fordrive folk, der er større og mægtigere end I selv. | 23 Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves. |
| 24 Hvert sted, hvor I sætter foden, skal være jeres; fra ørkenen til Libanon, og fra Eufratfloden til havet i vest skal jeres land strække sig. | 24 Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be. |
| 25 Ingen vil kunne holde stand imod jer; Herren jeres Gud vil lægge frygt og rædsel for jer over hele det land, I betræder, sådan som han har lovet jer. | 25 There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you. |
| 26 Se, jeg stiller jer i dag over for velsignelsen og forbandelsen, | 26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; |
| 27 velsignelsen, hvis I lytter til Herren jeres Guds befalinger, som jeg giver jer i dag, | 27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: |
| 28 og forbandelse, hvis I ikke lytter til Herren Jeres Guds befalinger, men viger fra den vej, jeg i dag befaler jer at vandre ad, og følger andre guder, som I ikke før har kendt. | 28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. |
| 29 Når Herren din Gud fører dig ind i det land, du skal ind og tage i besiddelse, læg da velsignelsen på Garizims-bjerg og forbandelsen på Ebals-bjerg. | 29 And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God hath brought thee in unto the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal. |
| 30 - De ligger på den anden side af Jordan, ved vejen mod vest, i de kana'anæeres land, der bor i Araba-lavningen, lige over for Gilgal, ved siden af Orakel-egene. | 30 Are they not on the other side Jordan, by the way where the sun goeth down, in the land of the Canaanites, which dwell in the champaign over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh? |
| 31 I skal jo over Jordan for at erobre det land, som Herren jeres Gud vil give jer. I skal tage det i besiddelse og bo i det, | 31 For ye shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein. |
| 32 og I skal omhyggeligt følge alle de love og retsregler, som jeg i dag lægger frem for jer. | 32 And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and judgments which I set before you this day. |
