| 1 Du må ikke ofre okser eller får, som har nogen som helst fejl, til Herren din Gud, for det er noget, Herren din Gud afskyr. | 1 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant, |
| 2 Finder man hos dig, i en af de byer, som Herren din Gud giver dig, en mand eller kvinde, som gør noget, der er ondt i Herren din Guds øjne, og bryder pagten med ham | 2 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; |
| 3 og mod min befaling går hen og dyrker andre guder og tilbeder dem eller solen eller månen eller hele himlens hær, | 3 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and inquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel: |
| 4 og du hører om det, så skal du undersøge det grundigt. Hvis det virkelig forholder sig sådan, at denne afskyelige handling har fundet sted i Israel, | 4 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die. |
| 5 skal du føre den mand eller kvinde, der har begået denne onde handling, ud til byporten, hvad enten det er en mand eller kvinde, og stene dem til døde. | 5 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. |
| 6 På to eller tre vidners udsagn skal dødsstraffen fuldbyrdes: ingen må henrettes på et enkelt vidnes udsagn. | 6 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you. |
| 7 Vidnerne skal være de første, der løfter hånden mod ham, når han skal dræbes; derefter skal resten af folket løfte hånden. Du skal udrydde det onde af din midte. | 7 If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose; |
| 8 Når retssager er for vanskelige for dig, hvad enten det drejer sig om drab, tvistemål eller overfald hjemme i dine byer, skal du begive dig op til det sted, Herren din Gud udvælger, | 8 And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment: |
| 9 og henvende dig til de levitpræster og den dommer, som er der til dentid; du skal rådspørge dem, og de skal meddele dig den dom, de fælder i sagen. | 9 And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee: |
| 10 Den dom, de meddeler fra det sted, Herren udvælger, skal du følge, og du skal omhyggeligt gøre alt, hvad de giver dig anvisning på. | 10 According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left. |
| 11 Den anvisning, de giver dig, og den dom, de afsiger, skal du følge uden at vige til højre eller til venstre fra den dom, de meddeler dig. | 11 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel. |
| 12 Men den mand, som handler selvrådigt og hverken vil lytte til præsten, som forretter tjeneste der for Herren din Gud, eller til dommeren, den mand skal da Du skal udrydde det onde af Israel. | 12 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously. |
| 13 Og hele folket skal høre om det og blive bange, så ingen længere handler selvrådigt. | 13 When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; |
| 14 Når du kommer ind i det land, Herren din Gud vil give dig, og tager det i besiddelse og bosætter dig i det, og du så siger, at du vil have en konge, så dan som alle de omboende folk har, | 14 Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother. |
| 15 da skal du gøre den, som Herren din Gud udvælger, til konge over dig. En af dine landsmænd skal du gøre til konge; en udlænding, en som ikke er din landsmand, må du ikke gøre til konge. | 15 But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. |
| 16 Men kongen må ikke anskaffe mange heste, og han må ikke lade folket vende tilbage til Egypten for at skaffe mange heste. Herren har selv sagt til jer: "I skal aldrig mere vende tilbage ad den vej." | 16 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. |
| 17 Han må heller ikke have mange hustruer, for at hans hjerte ikke skal komme på afveje; sølv og guld må han heller ikke samle sig i store mængder. | 17 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: |
| 18 Når han har besteget sin kongetrone, skal han tage en afskrift af denne lov til eget brug, efter levitpræsternes diktat. | 18 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: |
| 19 Den skal ligge hos ham, og han skal læse i den hele sit liv, for at han må lære at frygte Herren sin Gud og omhyggeligt følge denne lovbogs ord og disse love. | 19 That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel. |
| 20 Han skal ikke hovmode sig over sine landsmænd eller vige til højre eller til venstre fra befalingen, for at han og hans sønner må regere længe i Israel. | 20 The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance. |
