| 1 Da Josva var død, spurgte israelitterne Herren: "Hvem af os skal først drage op og angribe kana'anæerne?" | 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them? |
| 2 Herren svarede: "Det skal Juda. Jeg giver landet i hans hånd." | 2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand. |
| 3 Juda sagde til sin bror Simeon: "Drag med mig op til det landområde, der er tilfaldet mig, og lad os angribe kana'anæerne, så vil jeg også følge dig til dit landområde." Og Simeon fulgte ham. | 3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him. |

| 12 Kaleb havde sagt: "Den, der slår Kirjat-Sefer og indtager den, får min datter Aksa til kone." | 12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. |

| 17 Juda drog ud sammen med sin bror Simeon, og de slog de kana'anæere, der boede i Sefat; de lagde band på byen, og derfor fik den navnet Horma. | 17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah. |
| 18 Så indtog Juda Gaza med opland, Ashkalon med opland og Ekron med opland. | 18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof. |
| 19 Herren var med judæerne, så de erobrede-bjerglandet. Men de kunne ikke fordrive dem, der boede i slettelandet; de havde nemlig jernvogne. | 19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron. |

| 22 Også Josefs hus drog op; de gik mod Betel, og Herren var med dem. | 22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them. |
| 23 Josefs hus udspejdede Betel - byen hed tidligere Luz | 23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz. ) |

| 26 Han drog til hittitternes land og byggede en by, som han kaldte Luz; det hedder den den dag i dag. | 26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day. |
| 27 Manasse fik ikke fordrevet indbyggerne i Bet?Shan med tilhørende småbyer, i Ta'anak med tilhørende småbyer, i Dor med tilhørende småbyer, i Jibleam med tilhørende småbyer og i Megiddo med tilhørende småbyer; det lykkedes kana'anæerne at blive boende i den del af landet. | 27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. |
| 28 Da israelitterne blev de stærkeste, gjorde de kana'anæerne til hoveriarbejdere. De fordrev dem ikke. | 28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. |

| 32 Asheritterne bosatte sig blandt de kana'anæere, der boede i landet, for de fik ikke fordrevet dem. | 32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out. |

| 34 Amoritterne trængte danitterne tilbage i-bjerglandet og tillod dem ikke at komme ned på sletten. | 34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley: |
| 35 Det lykkedes endda amoritterne at blive boende i Har?Heres, i Ajjalon og i Sha'albim; men da Josefs hus fik overtaget, blev de hoveriarbejdere. | 35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries. |
| 36 Edomitternes område strakte sig fra Akrabbim?passet, fra Sela og opefter. | 36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward. |
