| 1 Da Ehud var død, gjorde israelitterne på ny, hvad der var ondt i Herrens øjne, | 1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead. |
| 2 og Herren gav dem i hænderne på kana'anæerkongen Jabin, som regerede i Hasor. Hans hærfører var Sisera, som boede i Haroshet-ha-Gojim. | 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles. |
| 3 Israelitterne råbte til Herren, for Jabin havde ni hundrede jernvogne, og han havde undertrykt israelitterne med hård hånd i tyve år. | 3 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel. |
| 4 På den tid var profetinden Debora, Lappidots kone, dommer i Israel. | 4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. |
| 5 Hun sad under Deborapalmen mellem Rama og Betel i Efraims-bjergland, og israelitterne kom op til hende med deres retssager. | 5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. |
| 6 Hun sendte bud efter Barak, Abinoams søn, fra Kedesh i Naftali og sagde til ham: "Dette befaler Herren, Israels Gud: Drag op på Tabo-bjerget, og tag ti tusind mand af naftalitterne og zebulonitterne med dig! | 6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun? |
| 7 Så skal jeg trække Jabins hærfører Sisera og hans vogne og hær hen til dig ved Kishonbækken og give ham i din hånd." | 7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand. |
| 8 Barak sagde til hende: "Hvis du går med, vil jeg gå; men hvis ikke du går med, går jeg ikke." | 8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go. |
| 9 Hun svarede: "Jeg går med dig, men så får du ikke selv æren for din færd, for så giver Herren Sisera i hænderne på en kvinde." Debora brød nu op og drog med Barak til Kedesh, | 9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh. |
| 10 og Barak kaldte Zebulon og Naftali til våben i Kedesh; ti tusind mand fulgte ham, og Debora gik med. | 10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him. |
| 11 Kenitten Heber havde skilt sig ud fra kenitterne, efterkommerne af Moses' svigerfar Hobab, og han havde slået sit telt op ved Elon-Besa'anannim i nærheden af Kedesh. | 11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh. |
| 12 Da Sisera fik melding om, at Barak, Abinoams søn, var draget op på Tabo-bjerget, | 12 And they showed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor. |
| 13 samlede han alle sine vogne, ni hundrede jernvogne, og alle de tropper, han havde, og førte dem fra Haroshet-ha-Gojim til Kishonbækken. | 13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon. |
| 14 Da sagde Debora til Barak: "Bryd nu op! For det er i dag, Herren vil give Sisera i din hånd; Herren drager selv ud foran dig." Så gik Barak straks ned fra Tabo-bjerget, fulgt af ti tusind mand. | 14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. |
| 15 Og Herren skabte forvirring blandt Siseras vogne og i hele hæren foran Barak, og Sisera sprang ned fra sin vogn og flygtede til fods. | 15 And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet. |
| 16 Barak forfulgte vognene og hæren til Haroshet-ha-Gojim; og hele Siseras hær faldt for sværdet; der var ikke én tilbage. | 16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left. |
| 17 I mellemtiden var Sisera flygtet til fods til Jaels telt; Jael var kenitten Hebers kone. Der rådede nemlig fred mellem Hasors konge Jabin og kenitten Hebers hus. | 17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. |
| 18 Jael gik Sisera i møde og sagde tilham: "Kom med hjem, herre, kom med mig hjem. Vær ikke bange!" Så gik han med hende ind i teltet, og hun lagde et tæppe over ham. | 18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle. |
| 19 Han sagde til hende: "Giv mig lidt vand, jeg er så tørstig." Hun åbnede lædersækken med mælk og gav ham noget at drikke; så lagde hun tæppet over ham igen. | 19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him. |
| 20 Han sagde til hende: "Stil dig i teltåbningen. Hvis der kommer nogen og spørger, om der er nogen herinde, skal du svare nej." | 20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and inquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No. |
| 21 Men Jael, Hebers kone, tog en teltpløk, og med en hammer i hånden listede hun ind til ham og drev pløkken gennem tindingen på ham, så den gik ned i jorden; for han var faldet i dyb søvn, træt som han var. Sådan døde han. | 21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. |
| 22 I det samme kom Barak, som forfulgte Sisera, forbi. Jael gik ham i møde og sagde til ham: "Kom, så skal jeg vise dig den mand, du søger." Han gik med hende ind, og der lå Sisera død med pløkken gennem tindingen. | 22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will show thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples. |
| 23 Sådan lod Gud den dag kana'anæerkongen Jabin bukke under for israelitterne. | 23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel. |
| 24 Deres hånd lå stadig tungere på kana'anæerkongen Jabin, og til sidst fik de gjort det af med ham. | 24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan. |
